அதிரடி மாற்றத்திற்கு உட்படும் பேஸ்புக் வசதி

பேஸ்புக் கணக்கு ஒன்று உருவாக்கும் போது குறித்த பயனர் என்ன பால் என்பதை தெரிவு செய்வது கட்டாயமாகும்.

எனினும் இதுவரை காலமும் இந்த வசதியில் ஆண் அல்லது பெண் என்று இலகுவாக தெரிவு செய்யும் வசதி தரப்பட்டிருந்தது.

ஆனால் திருநங்கைகள் பேஸ்புக் கணக்கினை உருவாக்கும்போது இவ்வசதியில் பிரச்சினை ஏற்படுவதனால் பேஸ்புக் நிறுவனம் தனது வியாபார வலையமைப்பு நிறுவங்களுள் ஒன்றான LGBT உடன் இணைந்த மேற்கொண்ட கலந்துரையாடலின்படி இதற்கான மாற்று வசதியினை அறிமுகம் செய்ய தீர்மானித்துள்ளது.

இதன்படி உத்தியோகபூர்வ அறிவித்தலை வெளியிட்டுள்ள அந்நிறுவனம் Male (He/His), Female (She/Her) அல்லது Neutral (They/Their) என்றவாறு தெரிவு செய்யும் வசதியினை அறிமுகம் செய்யவுள்ளது.

Facebook announces new gender options

In the old days it was easy. You were either a man or a woman. These days, things are not so straight forward. How would you fill in a form if you are transgender? Most places don’t provide an option. Well Facebook has decided to acknowledge the many types of gender identities and apparently they have managed to identify as many as 56 different gender identities that one can choose from on Facebook.

Facebook’s official announcement states, “We collaborated with our Network of Support, a group of leading LGBT advocacy organizations, to offer an extensive list of gender identities that many people use to describe themselves. Moreover, people who select a custom gender will now have the ability to choose the pronoun they’d like to be referred to publicly — male (he/his), female (she/her) or neutral (they/their).”

This new custom gender option can be hidden from people if you want, like co-workers, friends, family members, etc. Great news for those who are something other than just male or female. It is a smart move on Facebooks part to acknowledge this and give people more options.
